Historic Centre (Old Town) of Tallinn
The origins of Tallinn date back to the 13th
century, when a castle was built there by the crusading knights of the
Teutonic Order. It developed as a major centre of the Hanseatic League,
and its wealth is demonstrated by the opulence of the public buildings
(the churches in particular) and the domestic architecture of the
merchants' houses, which have survived to a remarkable degree despite
the ravages of fire and war in the intervening centuries.
Setos
Setos (Seto: setokõsõq, setoq, Estonian: setud) are an indigenous ethnic and linguistic minority in south-eastern Estonia and north-western Russia. Setos are mostly Seto-speaking Orthodox Christians of Estonian nationality. The Seto language (like Finnish and Estonian) belongs to the Finnic group of the Uralic languages.
The Setos seek greater recognition, rather than having their language
considered a dialect of Estonian. Along with Orthodox Christianity,
vernacular traditional folk religion is widely practiced and supported by Setos.
